electrolytics in parallel

Was wondering if you can use electrolytics in parallel,as you can with regular caps.
Thanks,Clay

Hi Clay,

Yes you can put electrolytics in parallel, as many as you want. The total capacitance is equal to the sum of all the capacitors. You just need to be mindful of the voltage ratings. The maximum applied voltage cannot exceed the rating of the lowest voltage rating on the caps.

For instance, 10uf 450V in parallel with 20uf 450V will give you 30uf @450V. However a 10uf 450V in parallel with a 20uf 200V will give you a 30uf @200V.

yes. be sure to keep the polarity the same. example two 10uF capacitors in parallel is equivalent to 20uF.
