Schematic needed 1941 Chevrolet
8/29/2008 10:39:46 AMMike F
I am looking for a schematic for a 1941 5-band Chevrolet radio. As happens sometimes, the tag with the model number is damaged. The model number ends in "794" Looking through Riders, I was unable to find any schematics ending with those numbers under United Motors. I will be doing a full restoration on this one including the steering mounted remote and don't want to go into this one blind. Anyone have this available? Many thanks

Thanks, Carl. Your help is greatly appreciated. I could not find the listing on the Resource page on this site. When I went and looked in my pesonal copy I have on disk, I was able to find it in the index. I do not access the Riders often and forgot how convoluted the indexing system can be. Most of my work can be found in the SAMS. Everything for GM vehicles is not under United. Was I missing something in the online index as I did not see a listing for Chevrolet? Again, many thanks.

Those of us who repair 6 volt radios can do so without a schematic because we know which parts need to be put in and where they go. We go to a schematic when something does not work after the essentials are installed properly: new vibrator (neg or pos ground), new buffer capacitor between the secondary of the power transformer, 2 filter capacitors and other capacitors as indicated values shown on the actual old capacitor (or as per schematic), then resistors as needed. Parts are not expensive, vibrators are about $30 plus postage, capacitors are $1 to $2 each plus postage. And you will need to get a 6 volt radio for a power supply. It is very important to know if the radio has a postive or negative ground and to hook the parts up properly. And you will need to learn how to read a schematic when you do find the right one. You might be best to have a knowledgeable repair person do this work for you. There are several listed in Antique Radio Classified magazine. A good repair cost might be $150 or more. Good luck.

Mike,
I found the schematic using the Universal Schematic Locator using the partial model number that you provided.
