:I am going to try to recap a 390 Majestic, there are 2 parts i dont know what they are, they are a metal square box aprox 2" square and 1" tall with wires going in. they are both screwed to the chassis underneath. I took one off and the side to the chassis looks like a black plastic or tar. Can someone tell me what they are?
Where are the wires connected? You should be able to identify the part on the schematic.

Do they look like the ones here:

We used to call these bathtub condensers/capacitors.

::Gary r, i have not had time yet to trace down the wires, but it has 21 caps total and i can only find 9, so Im thinking the rest are in the boxes as a block

I would still call them bathtub capacitors. They just bring out wires from the caps inside instead of having solder lugs.

::Gary R, yeah, except they dont have terminals like that just 7 or 8 wires going in them. thanks

If the value(s) is(are) not printed on the metal tub, then you will probably have to trace out the leads to the radio's circuitry and read the value from the schematic diagram.

::Gary R, OK, thanks. So how do i recap them, there are no markings or numbers on the units, or can I get them out to see how to rewire new caps in place.
