Stewart Warner unknown model

Hi there,

I recent;y bought an old Stewart Warner Console radio at an antique store. The case was made by the Victoriaville Furniture Company Ltd. I cannot figure out what the model number of the radio is as the label was removed. The dial says Stewart Warner Brigadier II. It has 4 tubes 2 marconi (12SQ7 & 12SK7) and 2 GE (50L6GT & 12A8GT). The Dial also has Police labeled on the 1600-1700 end of the dial. Any ideas as to what this might be would be great! I can provide pictures if necessary. Thank you for any help!

Something isn't computing here. I don't know of a
SW radio that doesn't have a rectifier. Are you overlooking a tube that would have about a 35 Volt filament, like a 35Z5?

Thank you for the reply. There are only 4 tubes in the console. On the inside there's a label listing there positions relative the the front. The label states 1F5G 1C7G 1H6G and 1D5G. There are no other tubes listed and none other that I can see. Any other clues?

Thanks again!

Huh? Earlier didn't you say 50L6, 12SQ7, 12SK7, and 12K8? Those are regular tubes for a AC/DC radio, but tubes that start with a "1" are usually for battery operated radios, which, using batteries don't need a rectifier.
Something wrong here.

The radio is probably Canadian and possibly a R414. Someone may have put the wrong tubes in it to make it look better for selling.

A schematic has been emailed to Troy and also to Lewis for general information.

It would appear that the first thing is to get some parts, including four tubes with one Volt filaments.

Lewis, I could e-mail some pictures if it would help. Let me know, I have several that I've taken of the front of the console as well as the radio itself top and underneath revealing all wiring.

Thanks for your help!

Troy:
Pix are not going to help me right now, somebody changed the tubes to the wrong types, and you need to find some of the right types, as in one Volt filaments. Then, the thing is designed to run on batteries, so you will want to build a AC to battery supply. But, first, find the tubes, and then we will sweat the small stuff later.

Lewis,
I had a friend of mine who is great with this stuff have a look. What we discovered is that the radio has been modified. The radio as you said was originally battery powered but at some point a Selenium rectifier and a 40/40 double capacitor were added to convert the radio to AC as it also has a power cord. I'm wondering if that's why the change from the 1v tubes to three 12v and one 50v? The schematic that Ed sent me appears to be the right one. Should I try and work with the changes or revert back to original spec? I'm not sure how to tackle the AC to battery issue.

Thanks for your help!
