GE LB530 Portable radio

Does anyone have experience with this radio? It has a 2V lead acid battery that operates a vibrator to provide B+ for the radio. I am interested in the battery composition. Is it a conventional lead acid battery with sulfuric acid; can I use standard battery acid to rejuvenate it? Would appreciate any comments.

I have a GE 250 with the same set up, purchased at a car show (!) about 6 years ago with a Willard battery in it. The date on the battery is from 1957. I put in it some acid removed from my car battery (just a little from each cell) and the thing came to life! Only problem is when the battery gets low, and it does within a half hour of use, the liquid level also drops. If you try this, dont fill the battery to the full level, try to undershoot until the battery is recharged. Most auto stores sell acid to put into new batteries for motorcycles and riding mowers. As an option, you can also try a gel-cell battery, I also used 3 the size of a "D" cell and that worked well too. Now if I can only cure the slipping tuning string, I would be happy. Not that I would want to carry that monster too far. It sure is heavy.
