Thank you,
Vinny

Usually the chemicals in the plastic change with time changing the color. If it tobacco smoke residue ...I would not touch it ..depending on age...any attempt to clean it with water or soapy water will discolor it and possibly remove markings. Allot of the old plastic dial scales were made using phenol a "plastic" that will change if rubbed or cleaned with soap or warm water...The shiny-ness of the plastic will dull. What I usually do is just clean the back where no markings are to allow dial lamp light to pass through more clearly

Thank you. Unfortunately that coloring kills a lot of the beauty of some radios.

If there is no printing on the dial you can make your own replacement covers.

Sometimes the best solution is to just clean what you have using Novus products (#1, #2 and #3) in reverse order [the #3 product, then the #2, etc].

It will get the worst of the grime off and will polish out the scratches, giving you a much better plastic lens to see through.

Just an idea for your consideration.

Had the oportunnity to use Novus last week on a good but yellowed Fada 740 lens. It came out GREAT!!! and I figured if I messed it up I would just make my own lens via the web site mentioned earlier. Novus 1,2,&3 saved a lot of time. I started with 2 and went to 1. There is a guy on ebay that has it for sale got a pretty good buy on it. Plus it works fantastic on car headlight lens, I can see where I'm going now. Good Luck

Sometimes a 50/50 solution of bleach and water soaking it for a few hours can work... or at least reduce the worst yellowing.

Then if needed I follow with a good scrubbing with Brasso on both sides.

If all else fails I make a new one.

How?

I'd agree with Peter. I tried the 50/50 bleach mixture on a dial cover and left it over night then rinsed and put back in new solution (clean) for another hour or so and was very satisfied with the results. Also (but don't let the wives see this) used same procedure on drape traverse rod plastic hangers and they came out like new. PL
