flexible wire wound resistors - Sparton 57

I have found two flexible wire wound resistors (R16 and R17) in this radio (1936 Canadian Sparton model 57). One had drifted high and the other one is broken. To replace these would carbon 2 watt resistors work OK?

Hi Brian,

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but, what do you mean by "flexible wire wound resistor"?

Gary

They look like shielded wire with metal ends but are apparently a form of resistor.

Brian: Yes.

Here's the schematic and parts list: http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/739/M0029739.pdf

R16 and R17 are shown as 2-W resistors. Doesn't make any difference whether carbon, wire-wound, flexible, or whatever.

By the way, it is unusual for a wire-wound resistor to drift up in value. Double check it.
