Troubleshoot Zenith H500
8/15/2008 11:47:30 PMTim
I have a zenith TO H500, later model 5h40 chassis. It was in really nice shape. I just finished re-capping all the paper caps and electrolytics. Works really well now on all bands EXCEPT broadcast. I pull in stations strong on all shortwave bands but on broadcast it is weak. The stations have much variability in volume and low freq stations (near 550) are very weak no matter what antenna I use.

any idea on what the problem may be?

:Have you performed an alignment yet? Often this is necessary after rework of the radio.

Hi

Might also clean & check band switch contacts.

Bandswitch contacts make alot of sense in light of the strong performance on other bands. The contacts are buried in the coil assembly so I'm not sure I gave that much attention. Stay tuned.

Tim: Pipecleaners with contact cleaner sprayed on the end work very well there, and you don't have to spray cleaner all over the place. My L600 had the same symptoms, and it cleared up the problem.
