Packing instructions

Hi!

Does anyone have packing instruction that you use for sellers of radios.

I've received more than one damaged radio due to improper packing.

Thanks in advance!

The item can be bubble wrapped first, all the way around and the ends. Then placed in one box, then in another with two or so inches between the boxes. The packer should put 2 inches of other boxes on the 6 sides of the inner box. This is a lot of trouble for a radio that might sell for $10. It takes time to find two boxes and then the box surround. But that is what the sellers are being paid to do when they sell and item on ebay. I just did this for a shipment to Canada. I thought the radio would sell for far for than $21. But that is what happened and I boxed it the way mentioned above. I spent more time with the boxing than the worth of it all. And it was a nice radio, Bendix 55L2 in pristine white.

Thanks!
I wish more Ebay sellers shipped like you.

It's frustrating receiving a radio that you thought only require recapping, only to discover the case had been damaged during shipping.

Mark,
My personal feeling is that I wouldn't ship a cotton ball across town using UPS. I've shipped a few things with glass doors etc, and always double boxed with peanuts between the boxes in a space of about 2 inches. Glass panels were taped diagonally like you see at construction sites

Here is a note that I send to every seller now as soon as I win the auction. It has almost completely reduced my broken radio problems.

---
Up to you, but I suggest UPS GROUND; includes 1st $100 ins. free.
Many broken radios lately
- All were due to poor (single box) PACKING -
Sellers want to blame the shipper & in the end we all loose! You probly ALREADY pack well, but may I PLEASE suggest helpful packing ideas?
If you don't want my packing suggestions Please Email & advise What you use to assure safety?
But if ok:
Please wrap w/Bubble-wrap twice, or double box, put in LARGER box w/lots of peanuts around it.
(1 or 2 inches on all sides)
Stuff paper inside radio above tubes so they stay put.
Sorry, felt I ought to caution sellers in advance now, Okay?
Please do what you feel will work best.

Don't want to ask you to make good on damaged goods & Sure you don't either.

Sorry if you're already intelligent enough to realize ALL this.
but Obviously not everyone else was... lol

Insurance cannot fix a broken radio treasure.

Please let me know if you agree so we can proceed.

One year I shipped a Motorola 50XC1 to London from Minnesota (maroon with gold trim). It went be Fed Ex and the purchaser told me how to wrap and pack it. Double boxed with at least 2 inches between the outer and the inner box and then wrapped in thick bubble wrap in the inner box. It got there fine without any problems. Also did the same with a Wavy Grill model of something to the same purchaser. But getting an ebay seller to do all this for a $10-$50 radio is perhaps hard if not impossible.

:Since ebay has a "star" rating for shipping cost, many sellers cut shipping costs to the bone (you get what you measure). I have had pretty good success with asking for ground shipping such as UPS or Fedex as, offering brief packing instructions and offering to pay a nominal packing fee to cover seller's cost and effort. Not all sellers accept my offer to pay extra, but seems like everyone makes an extra effort to pack well. Of course there are exceptions, but most sellers try to please if the know packing is important. Seems to be working pretty well so far...

Stan,
I purchased 40" x 40" single strength flat cardboard stock, and created custom fitted containers for all the stuff I shipped. This may have been overkill, but buyer compliments as to the packing was worth it, especially for the fragile glass and electronic items.
