First Alignment

Okay, I'm ready to perform my first alignment. So you have an input from a freq. gen. and either a freq. counter or o-scope for the measurement. Now... do you perform these alignments with power applied to the radio or not? All I see in instructions is to turn the volume switch to on and in some cases turn it all the way up. Is this with power applied to the radio? Please don't beat me up too bad. I'm trying to learn. Thank you!

Yes, you have to have your radio powered up.

You don't need a 'scope or freq counter. Your signal generator should be able to inject an audio-modulated signal at the IF freq? Then use your ears to peak the IF xfmrs. Start with the last IF xfmr, and work toward the front.
