Given the number of radios that I have found with white flecks of paint spattered on the top; drop cloths were at the very least a rarity in the 30s.

My experience suggests that Victrolas were first used as paint magnets.

I had a Pooley lowboy 20's phono I pulled out the trash that worked well. It had served its former owner as a workbench. It had lots of small holes on the top made by having pieces of wood drilled on top of it. Fortunately, he never mounted a bench vice on it.
