General Electric - Superadio 2
11/6/2000 1:32:34 PMSven Weil
I found a working/rebuildable Superadio 2 in a thrifties this past Saturday.

It cost me US$7.00; so you can imagine how quickly I snapped the sucker up.

Anyway, the power switch needs replacing. The cover for the top-mounted power switch is gone missing and the switch is faulty (the spring is weak and you have to jiggle it to work sometimes).

Well...I'm going to be cleaning this radio and I'm going to be replacing the switch with a reasonable facimile, but I'd like to get an original and hopefully the switch cover (the silver button that goes over the switch).

The Superadio 2 was made before the GE brand was taken over by Thompson Electronics of France (which now makes the Superadio 3).

I was wondering, would a switch from the SR-3 fit the SR-2? And also what about the switch button? I have an SR-3, but I'm not cannibalizing it to find out.

Where would I be able to contact Thomson Electronics for replacement parts and switch covers? Their website has very slim info (www.home-electronics.net).

Thanks everyone!!!

Hey sven,
Thompson has problems according to this website, but it gives a US address. Maybe you have seen this site--- http://www1.shore.net/~dmoisan/faqs/superradio/gesr_app_A.html

One guy says he used an NCR receipt printer rocker switch and they warn trying to fix the old switch is a bear.

I have an Optimus from Radio Shack (same super radio 3 guts), i do enjoy it from time to time, it's an excellent radio..

You might try inquiring someone at radio shack, they do sell a very similar 3 and *supposedly* service what they sell.

Thanks Dave:

I've seen the website, and am in totall agreement. Mounting that switch in such a position has got to be one of the worst lapses of sense that any engineer could have had.

Ok...maybe I'm exaggerating, but it really is poor design in both the Superadio 2 and 3. :-)

I inquired last night as to whether I can special order the power switch. I was instructed to go to their website. We'll see what happens.

Thanks for the contact info, Dave! :-) :-)

The silver button on mine has a fair amount of play right out of the box. Why it isnt on the back of the vol pot like most, go figure. Does seem they have gone out of their way to cause problems in an otherwise great radio. good luck!
