Zenith Antenna Question

I'm finally getting into my 10S668. Upon removal of the cardboard Wavemagnet box I noticed there is a wire that comes out of the plug and routes around the inside perimeter of the radio cabinet. Is the routing of this wire standard equipment on this model?

Johnny: I'm not familiar with that particular model, but if the wavemagnet was working, I don't see why Zenith would add an extra wire to run around the cabinet. Perhaps the wavemagnet wasn't working, and someone added a wire for local reception. Check the wavemagnet connections with your ohm meter and see if if the coil is open somewhere. See the schematic for pin-outs on the connector. The coil itself is probably okay, but perhaps the hook-up harness or connector has an open.

My 8s463 has a bare spun wire running in the configuration that you described. My radio had been in a flood so it was largely gone when I recieved the radio, but traces of it still lined the perimeter of the cabinet. The radio ran fine without it in both the local/distance settings, and no difference was observed when I finally got around to replacing it.

Thanks folks, I'm starting to think that it is designed to be some kind of a FM antenna. I have a Philco that I just finished and the chassis has a female connector on it that is ID'd as "FM Antenna" and one wire coming out of that is for FM reception.
