Unknown Westinghouse Parts

Hi,

I am repairing a Westinghouse WR101 multiband radio
(tubes 6a7, 6h6, 6f5, 6k7, 43 and 25z5).

There are a couple of unmarked components of the top
of the chassis. A round Electrolytic Capacitor
(possibly an 8 and 16 uf), and a short Square can
with 7 leads coming from it. It looks like it might
be a bank of capacitors and possibly a resistor. I
have a schematic for this radio, but it is not exact.
It also does not have any component values listed on
it.

Does anyone have any information on what these parts
are ? Or perhaps a detailed schematic for this radio?

The index by riders scheme for that radio on this site indicates the square can is the output transformer and is located near the speaker. You should be able to follow the leads from the output tube area into the can and out to the speaker.

The cyl appears to be Quote: a plug -in fill dropping resistor. i am assuming this is represented by r-18 which doesnt give a value, but appears in the series fill circuit. You could just power the circuit and check the fill voltages.

You can measure continuity from the 2 speaker leads back through the secondary and the primary from the plate of the 43 and the other connection from the 43 (grid2?) leading to the can. An open is what you'd be looking for, the actual resistance is rarely listed. It does show a cap across the primary leads. the text seems to indicate this cap is located in the can.

Most of the time, the output tx is ok...get those electrolytics changed first, get it powered up (carefully) see what happens and go from there as opposed to going over every component.

Thanks for the reply Dave.

I should have indicated that the unknown rectangular
can is located next to the 6a7 and 6k7 tubes. It is
not the output transformer. As you indicated this
appears to be fine.

The unknown part is connected as indicated below:

One lead from this can connects to pin 3 of the 6a7,
another to pin 4 and 8 of the 6h6 along with pin 5
of the 43 tube. Another lead connects to pins 5 and 8
of the 6k7 tube, a lead connects to chassis gnd and
the remaining two leads are unconnected.

Any further ideas would be appreciated.

You must have been right about it being a cap bank, rene.

Most of those are cathode connections, 43,6h6, 5and 8 of the 6k7 are connected with 8 being the cathode, 3 and 5 of the 6a7 are connected grids showing a cap to chassis ground. only 6a7 and 6k7 are showing caps though. The whole thing must be chassis connected through the common chassis lead..

Maybe someone else here knows, however that's what it looks like!..

Not sure about the resistors. Can you see any around the pins on 6a7 and 6k7 you mentioned?

The caps should measure in the neighborhood of .1, .05 or .01..

resistor on 6k7 should be a couple hundred ohms.
