Hi,
You can actually try one of the "universal" replacements, such as N.O.S. Millen, Miesner, etc.

Otherwise, you should be able to make an IF can from an old car radio work adequately- these often were 262 Khz, but they might tune close enough for your application.

If you have not opened up either can, you might want to take a look and see what is there- it may just be a broken lead right at the termination point. If you need to unwind a few turns, or if you need to add a short length, you can still make the old ones work. The only time tehy will not, is if the broken section is inside of the windings.

You may also want to consider re-winding the originals too. Just take meticulous notes, and pictures before you start so you know where connectons were, how they were routed, which direction they were wound, and spacing, as well as number of turns.

Radio Junkyard may also have a chassis with a similar IF resonance.

Hi, Denis,
Try to get a new part, but if you want to try rewinding, see if you can find plastic spools for the windings. If they are mounted on a paper core that is about 1/4" in diameter, then you might find a sewing machine bobbin ( the spool that goes in the underside) about the right size. Take those meticulous notes and drawings, and measurements of where the coils are from the core ends, and then carefully unwind the windings and count the turns. When you rewind, they will, of course, be "scramble wound". 36 ga wire worked for me, and I used a hand-cranked drill with a bit that was shimmed with paper to hold the spool. In fact, you will probably have to enlarge the hole in the spool to make it fit over the core. Do that first before winding. But I had the advantage of being able to measure inductance of a good winding before I started. When I finished, I had to take off about 15-16% of the windings to get back to the same value of inductance. The important thing was that I was able to tune up the I F can. About a year ago I posted a description about how I rewound that I F. -Bart
