Greetings!
My name Is Nate.Recently on a weekend garage sale outing,i found this neat little orange radio.Come to find out,its made of Catalin (i'm a Newbie)and most likley worth alot more than the $5 i gave for it. It is in great shape other than a few very light scratches and some wear on the knobs. Just wanted some ideas on cleaners and or polishes i could saftley use on it without ruining it,or scratching it worse.
Thank you for your expertise!

If I offer you $10 for it, which is twice the amount you paid, I can also pay postage. What do ya think.

Looking at the diagram on the back of it,tubes are as follows 14q7,14a7(2),14b6,35w4. the ones that are in it,12be6,50l6gt,12ba6(2)35w4. assuming these are correct subs, i havent powered it up yet.hope that helps.

Thanks Nate. Not subs, I prefer to say you have a different chassis configuration. By chance does you label indicate Model 652? I have a Fada radio looks like a Model 652. No label at all. The chassis fits the cabinet. The chassis does have Fada part numbers such as 37.33 output IF, the tuning is 27.4. The tube complement as now in the sockets are 12AT6, 12BA6, 12BE6, 12SJ7, 35B5, and a 35W4. These are factory installed sockets too.

Your tube line up totals 91 volts with the (14s). series. With the other (12s) line up it totals 109 volts. Interesting arrangement that I cannot understand. With 110 volts going in the 91 is a little bit short or am I wrong?????? Someone else must know....

He's missed an output tube (35 something) on the diagram and you added wrong.

Nate, if you haven't worked on a Catalin radio there are some stickey points dealing more with the cabinet (Catalin)than chassis. To make it short the chassis could be stuck. You could seriously hurt the value. The following is just one site with some information.

I had a Sentinel catalin that was so tight the chassis would not come out. It had shrunk. But after some oil on the edges of the tight chassis and some tapping it did wiggle out. Then I used my table disc sander to grind off the edge of both sides of the chassis enough to get it in and with some room left over. I had the butterscotch with the wavy grill. delinmn

:: Thanks Bill,i'll be extremely gentle with it. as far as the previous post, yes it has the original back, stating it's a Fada 652, i had listed the original tube numbers that were on the back. I did try to power it up,and as i figured, nothing.the catalin appears in rather good condition, ive researched this radio, and have seen where it shrinks and cracks, i think this one came from a good temperature controlled enviroment.

:No one seems to want to mention it so far so I will..........
Be careful with that cabinet Nate. That radio is valued well over $500. You got a pretty good bargain.

Thanks! it's amazing what people "just want to get rid of" it was Garage Sale week here, picked up a Philco (86 chassis)in really good original condition,as well as a freshn'd aire fan,,dont think i spent over $20 lol

You got some deals! It's nice to come across someone who doesn't know the value of things once in a while. It's not like I like to rip people off or something, but I don't have money to spend on the more expensive items.
Fresh'nd Aire fan is one I'd like to add to my collection someday. I have enough fans, though, and not much more room, so that'll be another day.

Nate:
Your set was probably built in 1946. The cabinet can be polished with any of the good plastic polishes like Novis or some of the finer automotive polishes. If you want to return it to its' original color which was probably Alabaster (White) just keep rubbing. If you'd like a copy of a FADA ad for the 652's drop me your email.
