Thought I'd try again. I'm still looking for a model 589 Sparton chassis if anyone knows where I may find one. Thanks to all for this and all the help you've been.

This was one of several models which Sparton called the "Equasonne", which Sparks-Whittenton put in large and elaborate cabinets. The "works" consist of three independent chassis, bolted to a wooden slide-in board. There is a separate 4-gang tuner, an untuned broadband RF amp/detector module, and a power supply / audio amp chassis. The tuner module is completely shielded, with the four gangs on top, and four coils on the bottom. There is no amplification between tuner stages. Maybe someone will recognize it by the description, as there is no model number on the chassis, except a different model number on the power assembly, which was frequently made by someone other than Sparton. The Equasonne circuit was unique to Sparton, and the untuned RF amp used 485 or 484 tubes (typically Cardon C-485). Some individuals re-tubed with one or more 227's or 27's, which was a big mistake for both tubes and radio.

Thanks Ed! That's great info. I have a picture of one from the back and I can clearly see the setup. Saw it on e-bay for $50 for the whole radio. Don't know what it sold for but maybe I should have bought it. But then I'd have 2 cabinets and still 1 radio. I may just put another chassis in it and fix up the cabinet. Thanks again.
