JACKSON 658A tube tester
6/10/2008 10:35:50 AMJeffy
Hi, il would like to know if this tube tester is a good thing. Can I match tube with this tester? If I remember, I need to check mutual conductance Gm (micromho) to do this? What is a good price for this?

Thanks for your help!

Jeffy - here is the BAMA data for this tester: http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/jackson/658 Additional info is in "Tube Testers and Classic Electronic Test Equipment," by Alan Douglas.

This is basically an emissions checker. Jackson called it "dynamic," but it doesn't measure transconductance.

If you are wanting to match tubes, you may not need a tube tester. Except for push-pull amps, tubes really don't need to be matched. For push-pull stages, you can use some hi-fi audio amps, with adjustable bias, to match tubes. More info here: http://www.enginova.com/Tube_matching.htm
