European to U.S conversion

Hey guys!
Just purchased a telefunken set.
The cord was spliced with an U.S. two-pronged extension cord wire.

I believe this set had the European 3-prong plug.

When I test the two prongs with my meter I get no reading.

When I test the original wire from the set I get a reading.

How should this set be wired for U.S. use.

Thanks!

Mark

Mark: Does the set have a switch to select between 120V (US) or 220V (Europe)? Otherwise, you may need a step-up xfmr.

I think the Germans use the PAL format, and the US uses the NTSC format, based on 50 Hz power. Something you might check on.

Is this a television or a radio? PAL and NTSC only have to do with color television, not radios.

I shouldn't post with only one cup of coffee. He wrote Telefunken, and I read Television. Disregard me.

Hi again!

This se is a Telfunken D668 WK trop.
Well I figured ou the problem. It was the spliced in cord.
I attached a newer cord, plugged in the set and she came to life.
To my dimay she has a loud hum.
I suspect I have a bad power supply cap.

By the way this a european electrolytic cap.
Here is the data that appears on the can.

50+ 50uf 350/385
clf 50+50/350.

Should I gut this can and stuff with new caps or are replacement avalible?

Thanks!
Mark

PS: This set has a dial attached to the back of the chassi where you can adjust the voltage.

Mark: my style would be to disconnect the can caps and hang individual replacements under the chassis - leaving the cans there for ornamentation.

AES and RadioDaze sell can caps, but not sure if their mounting would be compatible?
