Grundig 2004W Tabletop radio

Well I'm back once again, to share the story of another purchase with everyone.

I found this radio at an Antique and Collectable show; I usually don't buy anything at these because the vendors usually want too much money. I found this gem under a pile of posters; I couldn't believe the shape it was in; everything is immaculate! I doubt the back panel has ever seen a drop of sunlight, no fading of any kind.

I was also pleased to find the radio actually works quite well, with only a minor hum and a slightly scratchy volume control. The frequency coverage on this unit is rather good too, with LW, SW, MW and even some FM band coverage.

All this for about $25 US!

I may ask if anybody has any info about this radio, but for the moment I'll attempt to get the information myself via some good Internet resources. As usual I plan on restoring the electronics to tip-top shape, so I hope to get a schematic.

Cheers!

John

Hi,
www.Samswebsite.com
or www.grundig.com

Are the best bets for finding a schematic. However, have you taken the back off? You might find what you seek right there. It has been a while since I have opened up a Grundig, Majestic, or G.M., so I may be thinking of a different radio.

You were absolutely correct! Although I would have found this out in due time, this has saved me some preliminary investigation. The shematic is in good shape with only some mild signs of heat discolouration. I don't have any experience with these German sets, so I was quite imopressed with the layout inside this radio. Very clean and simple. I was quite interested in the speaker; it has a cloth "bag" all the way around it except for the magnet; there's not a speck of dust on the cone!

Thanks for the tips!

Wrapping the speaker in cloth was a very common thing for European maufacturers to do back in the 40s, 50s and a bit into the early 60s.

My grandmother has a 1940s Philips which also has the speaker wrapped in a heavy (though acoustically transparent) cloth.

Congratulations on your find. Enjoy your radio! :)
