proper alignment procedure

Hi
Am trying to align with my signal generator radio model Majestic 5A410. I have the Rider data sheet which mentions where the positive lead of the generator goes to ( Screen Grid pin 5 of the 12SA7) however it makes no mention as to where the negative ground lead of the generator goes onto, should I connect the generators ground directly chassie or to a B minus spot?? Also I am using a .01 cap as instructed and an isolation transformer
Any good web instructional sites on using a signal generator for diagnostics and alignment??
Thanks

Hi, John. Here is the radio's schematic: http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/523/M0010523.pdf

Try connecting one terminal of the signal generator to the radio's chassis.

Many older signal generators came with an instruction manual which was somewhat of a tutorial for use with tube-type radios. For example, the manual for my Eico 324 has some good pointers that would apply to other signal generators as well.

You can paw around bama.sbc.edu for instruction manuals. I think perhaps there was an old Sams paperback on using signal generators. Well, I know there was one for 'scopes, but maybe not signal generators.

If both the generator and radio are on the iso transformer you are safer.

I see this schematic use a floating B-

So you can either connect the neg side of the signal gen to either the chassis or to B- where the signal may be a bit clearer .

Turn on the generator's modulation and when you can hear the tone in the speaker try turning down the gen level to just audible.
Adjust (peak) the 2nd IF first and the 1st IF secondly.
