Dual turntable service
10/25/2000 3:15:30 AMGary Innes
Greetings All!
Just found this site today; it's great. Reminds me of the Brickboard page where those of us struggling to keep old Volvos running support & advise others.
Question: whom do you recommend for cleaning/repair/possible overhaul of my cherished Dual 1009 turntable with the nine-pound aluminum platter??? Plays 33/45/78 AND 16!!! Came with the majestic Electrohome console stereo that my mother purchased in 1966 (still going strong). I'm in a hick village in Arizona, so I'm prepared to ship anywhere in U.S. If there's nobody trustworthy, is there a manual to tell me how to service it myself??? How about a source for Dual parts??? Thanx in advance for any info.
If any 1009 owners are lacking an original operating manual, I would be happy to copy mine for you.

Hi,
Actually, if you want to service it yourself, using common sense and a well lit workspace, you can do pretty much all of the work with no special tools. I would check to seeif Sams has a photofact for that- www.samswebsite.com and that gets quite thorough.

If you are doubtful of your abilities, and afraid that when it comes apart, it may not go back together, then you might want to consider shipping. The bad thing is that when an item is being shipped, no matter how carefully packed, it is out of your hands, and subject to the whims of the shipper. UPS has an un-official drop test of dropping an item 4 feet onto a concrete floor. So if you can pack to that standard, shipping is viable.

WWW.needledoctor.com sells many parts and services turntables of all shapes and sizes. They do have an "800" number, and you may want to call them to verify their ability to service yours.

There is another site that I have dealt with in the past that has stylii and even a Dual parts section, manuals, as well as references to repair places. www.garage-a-records.com/

Good luck.
