Hello still working on the zenith and the 4 speaker wires that go down to the speaker have been twisted to the transformer. Did the original wires setup have terminals at the speaker or were the wires just taped. All 4 of my wires are just twisted, which of course is not good, I dont want them shorting out on each other. I would like to have it like its supposed to be. Unless the primary wires just came out of the transformer all the way up to the 4 prong plug. Then I would guess friction tape is in order.

Sean, It sounds as though either the speaker, transformer or both were replaced in your radio at some point. I looked into the back of mine and the wires run uninterrupted from the speaker and transformer to the plug. I'd definitely isolate and insulate the connections - and you have a couple of options. You could possibly fit a terminal strip in there (screwing it down to the cabinet or speaker frame) and neatly solder the connections - or you could unhook each twisted connection, slide on a piece of heat-shrink tubing, re-twist the wires lengthwise, solder them, snd then shrink the heat-shrink tube over the connection. The least desirable fix would be wrapping tape over unsoldered, twisted connections....
