zenith 2 meg ohm volume control needed

Hello I dont see my post about this. I want to replace the volume control with switch on the zenith 6s157. I cant find a 2 meg pot. will a 3.5 meg ohm work? or should I put a 2 meg ohm in parallel with it? I have a 1 meg ohm but theres no switch on the back of it

I think a 3.5 should work just fine, without anything across it. Try it and see, you are not going to hurt anything.

:I cleaned the control with radio shacks tv tuner cleaner, which helped but its still staticy. You can wiggle the shaft and it has the scratchy sound plus the volume is erratic when adjusted. Pluse the volume doesnt adjust evenly. you can turn the volume and it gets louder then suddenly it gets real loud.
