Field Open Voice Coil Repaired...How should I seal back up?
3/17/2008 9:43:04 PMBob E.
I repaired a mouse-chewed field coil on a Philco
46-420. I peeled back the "stuff" on the winding
and cleaned up the chewy crap in the area where the
chewing was going on and found the disconnection to the lead wire. I only had about a quarter inch of the winding to work with but was able to get it re-soldered. Now I need to bandage it back up. Should I just use regular shiny black electricians tape? Anything else
recommended?

You could use black construction paper........or black friction tape. Both are readily available. Friction tape is available at most hardware stores. Construction paper might be the easier route. Cut a long strip of the proper width and coat its backside with a thin even layer of Elmer's white glue. Wrap around carefully until snug and then work out the end. If you have a number stamp and some silver, white, or black ink, depending on what was used originally, you can re-stamp the numbers, too. I purchased a few number stamps. They come in handy for re-stamping numbers after a chassis is cleaned.
