Comcast+HD puzzler
3/11/2008 4:26:57 PMWade Epler
Folks-I hooked up my new HD tv last week, and since then I have been picking up new stations from Comcast that I do not subscribe to. I have your 'standard basic' package that includes about 50 channels, with no On Demand. I did purchase the wrestling sports package for my son, but otherwise, the cable comes right off the outside line directly into the back of my television.

Here is what happens-while channel surfing, I'll go from channel 27 to 27-1 (as ID'd on my screen) and I'll be able to watch ppv of Micheal Clayton in an endless loop all day. Many other ppv programs have been appearing on these subchannels as well. I am also occasionally picking up some HD stations that I do not subscribe too. Any thoughts on what is happening? These stations come and go seemingly at random, and when they reappear, it is not always on the same substation.

This is more of a puzzler for me than anything, and I do love watching march madness for free !

Anybody in your neighborhood have a satellite dish? You may be experiencing the same phenomenon that I am with my new set. Turns out, the guy next door has Dishnetwork and during some times of the day, whatever he's watching leaches onto my coax.

My folks put in one of the new TV several months back and was getting the samething - they are too far out of town to have cable and will not ues a dish.

Here is my understanding of what is happing - the analog TV signal has a specified band width for each channel. As the stations change over fro analog transmitters to digital, the band width needs changes (get smaller), so not the stations will had additional channels (i.e.g 7, 7.1, 7.2, .....) to fill up the remaining band width. In some case, you may pick up an additional 5 - 15 channels depending on which stations have switch over to the digital format.
