how do you mount the covers on the back of the "hippo" by Philco 48-460

Any ideas on mounting the backs on the Hippo 48-460..I'm restoring 4 of them and none have the backs, I am at a loss in how they were originally mounted.
Thanks, Earl

Earl,

There were spring clips that slid down on the back material. The clip had a u-shape bent into it and this slid down on the back and held it in place. The clip also had a tab on it that was bent up and pressed against the inside of the case. You may check out:

One of the pics shows the clips on the radio back and may give you some idea. Zenith also used clips on some of their bakelite radios to hold the back. I can email you a pic of one of the Zenith clips that may even give you a better idea.

:Thanks, radiodoc, this helped alot. I enlarged the pictures and I will make some from picture frame mounts. Its probably not the best idea Philco had but I want to keep them authentic.

Earl,

There is also a site that makes laser cut backs for radios that asks visitors to his site if they know of a source of clips to let him know. I don't think it would be too hard to make them if one was in hand to copy from.
