Yes there are still signals on short wave. Hearing them depends on frequency and time of day. During the day higher frequencies come in better. At night try 6 MHz area.
Try another 6K8 oscillator tube. They quit on higher frequencies first. Be sure band switch contacts are clean and short wave coils have continuity.

:I am in the process of restoring a Western Auto Model 268 (Gifillan Model 66-S) with tuning eye. It has an AM broadcast and a S/W 6-18 MHz band. I have braodcast working, but it is extremely sensitive on external antenna connection and length. Is this typical? Also, the S/W band doesn't seem to pick up anything but ststic. Is there anythiong active in this region anymore? Thanks. Dennis
