I am in the process of restoring a Western Auto Model 268 (Gifillan Model 66-S) with tuning eye. It has an AM broadcast and a S/W 6-18 MHz band. I have braodcast working, but it is extremely sensitive on external antenna connection and length. Is this typical? Also, the S/W band doesn't seem to pick up anything but ststic. Is there anythiong active in this region anymore? Thanks. Dennis

Hi Dennis

Yes there are still signals on short wave. Hearing them depends on frequency and time of day. During the day higher frequencies come in better. At night try 6 MHz area.

Try another 6K8 oscillator tube. They quit on higher frequencies first. Be sure band switch contacts are clean and short wave coils have continuity.
