Delco speaker

I've recently acquired and repaired two Delco R-1235 sets and both have speakers that would probably benefit from a reconing. However, as previously discussed on another thread Electronix is out of stock of 5" cones. I've heard that Delco may actually be made by RCA and relabeled - the speakers are 5" PM type and mount from a bracket on the rear of the speaker in two places. Are these in fact common to RCA and any other AA5 sets or has anyone retrofitted a newer replacement speaker in place of one these type? Thanks!

TonyJ, hi. I can see no reason not to use a modern speaker in its place. You have to matchas closely as possible the voice coil resistance/impedence but the biggest pain will be the bracket. Is the original frame also the bracket? If not is it welded on? Rivets? Even if you are off on the resistance/impedence it should work but frequency response may be off somw. PL

Yes unfortunately the mounting bracket seems to be intergrated on the speaker frame behind the magnet. Fabrication isn't my forte' so I think I'll check with a few people I know about making an adapter. Or hopefully finding some junker chassis for sale :)
