I am using a wire as a makeshift antenna. The scematic
diagram for the radio shows that there is a "loop" of
unspecified length, attached to a capacitor and then
to the antenna. These parts were missing from my radio
when I got it. I am not sure how to create a
replacement loop without more details. I also am not
sure what the original antenna would have looked like.
There is no back on my radio and I am not sure if there
ever was one.
The schematic given on this web page for the 1682
isn't complete and doesn't show the loop, but anyone
with an original copy can probably see the part I am
talking about.
Also....when I turn the tuning capacitor to the lower
half of the dial I get a lot of crackling and pops.
The quality seems to get worse as the plates of the
tuning capacitor are in closer alignment (with larger
capacitive area). Is there any way to cure this? Do
I need to replace the tuning capacitor?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Joseph Mollen
A loop is more than an antenna. It's a tuned circuit and is part of the antenna coil.. Without the loop signals will be weak.
The crackling you hear while tuning are plates of the tuner touching. Look carefully and bend them slightly so they don't touch.
I'll send the schematic.

Hi, Could you tell me where to find a scematic for this model? Thanks Larry
