BTW, I am a year older than the radio and worked in the electronics industry for about 35 years. I would appreciate any help!
I bought an Airline 93BR-1201A from another ham, repaired a multitude of problems, downloaded the schematic and discovered that the type of antenna wasn't specified.
External long wire
A white and black set of wires are attached to the antenna tuning coil.
The black one is the ground wire and the lighter color ..and its probably not white any longer …is the antenna wire connection.
(it says "wave trap" on schematic--I know what a wave trap is)
That’s right…. it’s an L/C series, broadly resonant, tuned trap to ground for the initial shunting off, of some of the unwanted VLF signals of times past.
and one of them obviously is the antenna wire. Does anyone know the original type of antenna this radio had?
Was it a loop or was the radio meant to be attached to an external antenna?
There are internal tuned antenna input coil(s) in the form of T2 and T3, had there have been a loop in the back or internal to the bottom of the cabinet there would have been the loop in place of those units OR that loop connecting into the antenna coils via a matching network / winding.
Even without an antenna, this radio is extremely sensitive on all but the highest SW band. It approaches my R-390 in sensitivity!
Hope its selector / indicator mechanism / mechanics hasn’t become balky with time !
