6X5GT used to replace 1V
2/11/2008 7:54:19 PMBrian
My old Detrola 136E orignally called for a 1V rectifier but someone has replaced the socket and wired in a 6X5, using one plate only, pin 5. Would the extra current draw be a factor? Should I revert back to the 1V?
Thanks

:I checked on this site and the 1v is a half wave rectifier so thats why they are only using half of the 6x5 tube. The current specs arent on this site in tubes for the 6x5. Im hunting down the specs. Someone else might beat me to it though.

:How much extra current, the ac or the dc current?

Sean,

The 6X5 should be good for 70 MA output current.

::see I told you somebody would beat me to it, lmao, I just found my radio tube book. I dont see why it would draw more current. The tubes maximum current is more but thats just how much the tube can handle. If it is actualy drawing more current, I would find out why. Shorted filter cap, field coil, other problem?
