hi all,
I have a four tube trf, 80, 24a, 24a, 47. I don't know who made it, it has"midgette" stamped in the dial bezel, it is a smaller cathedral style. I recapped it and it seems to work prety well other than it will break into oscilation on at the high end of dail if volume is turned up high. There are no tube shields, also it uses close to 70 watts. Does this seem a little high? transformer gets warm (not too hot) but I have not played it for more than 30 min. yet.
Thanks, Paul

Current draw seems normal. Transformer temperature is normal, too.
Shielding tubes will prevent oscillation, as well as shielding coils. Best sensitivity and selectivity is achieved at maximum volume. Audio will distort at low volumes due to the kind of detector used.
My neighbor once had me work on a Century radio with the same tubes as yours. It was a nice little radio. I wouldn't mind owning it. Those radios need a nice long antenna, however, unless you live on the 3rd floor like me.

:Thanks Thomas, I needed a bit of reassurance, the schematic I was using was for a Colonial Radio Corp. Model 46. It uses a 35 for rf amp (rest of line up same) and draws 56 watts. I have a 20 foot wire for anntenne in basement and am getting a station out of louisiana and one out of Hamilton, Onterio among many others so I am impressed with sensitivity of it.Any way, thanks again Paul
