Hi guys!

I need a new dial lamp bulb for my TO Y600.
What bulb does this take?

How about suppliers?

Thanks!!

Mark: My L600 uses a #222 screw base bulb, and I suppose the Y600 uses the same. If you're not a purist, you can swap out the battery leads underneath the chassis shelf with a D-size battery holder available at any Radio Shack.

Thanks Steve!!

I was wondering. If I wanted to eliminate the battery altogether and have the dial lamp activated when the radio is turned. Is this possible?

Mark: It's really more trouble than it's worth. A "D" size alkaline battery will last a very long time. I've had the same battery in my L600 for 4+ years now and it's like new. You can get a single D holder at Radio Shack for cheap, connect the wires, and screw it down where the old one was. Takes only a few minutes to do. You can also get reproduction batteries like the old ones, but cost a lot more. Those bulbs were meant for momentary use, and not to be on all the time. I wouldn't want a bulb getting too hot behind those irreplaceable plastic dial panels.

Radio Shack #272-1124 should work. It's a 2.33v 270mA incandescent screw base bulb.

Radio Shack also has a 112 bulb that is for one dry cell, it would be a little brighter.

All:
And, this makes me wonder: If a tube with two elements is a diode, three a triode, five a pentode, etc, etd, is a light bulb, with only one element, properly called a monode??
