police scanner to 10 meter conversion

I have an old, Realistic brand police/fire scanner, in the 148 to 175 MhZ range, and would like to know if you can merely change the tuning coils{make your own}in order to make a 10 meter receiver out of it. I am familiar with the formulas used in winding couls...Wm

William,
I wouldn't think so. I think it's more than the coils and the frequency they resonate tuned circuits at. You would have to (most likely) move at least one oscillator (either xtal controlled or PLL), plus at least one mixer and RF stage. It would be easier and faster to build up a down converter and use the scanner as its intermediate frequency stage.
