hi
i have a crosley 10-136e and i got it half baked meaning it was the cabinet , and the guts no knobs or pointer but after alot of looking i found one knob and the pointer first can anyone help me out with a knob i do not care the color and if any one has a set of knobs from the other crosley radios that looked like this i would consider those to, they kind of look like A bullet. But besides the fact of how it lookes when i first got it i plugged it in and a tube cracked. Could this be the tube had a leak? Also it did hum so would it be safe to say i need to recap it and lastly the volume knob does not work wich i hear is a commom problem does and one know how to fix this ??? Thanks for all your time please post back:)

Hi again, Alex:

You will find that you'll need some patience (maybe quite a bit) to find odds and ends for your radio. eBay is an excellent source, although you will have to be diligent and check for new listings everyday. I would set up specialized searches for the items that you are looking for, and while you are contacting other places like Radio Daze and such, follow up on the new eBay listings that are posted. Yes, the humming is ususally a good sign that the radio probably needs recapped, as leaky paper capacitors are the most likely culprit of the majority of problems once the radio can successfully be brought back to life. As far as the dial, I would first try to clean it with a couple shots of de-oxit...there is usually a small hole that will accept an injection. As I am constantly reminded myself, try the simple stuff first. That could save you a major headache later.

:Hi again, Alex:
:hi paul
i am on ebay and that is how i got the two things but the radio when i got it had no pointer or knobs what so ever. Also it took me awhile to find the stuff as i have had the radio over a year and bought the pointer a couple months later and the knob i still have not got as i just found it. Aslo for the recap do you have any caps for it and if so how much would you want for all the caps and by chance if i payed you would you do it and if so how much, i like the radio my brother has one in maroon and then i found this one so i bought it. Also do you buy radios because i have a few that are in good shape like a country belle that is on ebay. Thank you for all your time and can nort wait to hear your responce.
Thanks

:: Alex, I've been purchasing my caps on an as needed basis when I win the radios on eBay. I probably should purchase a varied supply at one time as it would be a bit cheaper, but I also bid on other things like clocks and model trains. So, the funds go where they are needed at the time. That being said, I'm definitely not an expert on radios by any means...I'm still learning myself. There are some wonderful minds here...Doug, Norm, Thomas, Lewis, Edd...they all have WAY more experience than I do, and they have taught me much. I can tell you that it's not too awfully difficult to do it yourself if you approach it in an orderly and systematic manner...one cap at a time, testing the radio after each one is replaced. I don't mind botching-up one of my radios, but I'd hate to do it to yours (LOL). Now that you know where to find the schematic, and if it's from the mid forties to fifties, it probably has a parts list with all of the capacitors that you would need. Just drop Phil Hazen at Radio Daze a line and he'll fix you up. RD is fantastic to work with, as they truly appreciate people like us who are taking an interest in these vintage radios. I'm going to check out your eBay listing now...you'll probably hear from me again, OK?
