instead of using a long piece of wire for an antenna can i just connect the antenna lug to a wire in my house like the neutral wire. i have a 2 story house and there should be lots of neutral wiring in it to make a long antenna.

You risk picking up noise from computers, lamp dimmers, hair dryers, anything that makes radio noise will be connected by capacity to your antenna. Also, radios without power transformers might have (through malfunction) hot 120 Volts on the antenna lead. I'd rather string an antenna in the attic, if possible.

Marcus: You can try it, but you should add a suitable capacitor in series - to keep any voltage from getting into your receiver. The neutral conductor can have voltage on it, generally a few volts but under unusual circumstances, 120V to ground. Be aware that your idea isn't sanctioned by the National Electric Code, but if you know what you're doing and are careful, should be reasonably safe.

Also, I'm not sure how good the antenna will be. The neutral conductor of each ckt is solidly tied to ground at the same bus as the grounding conductor.

Personally, I wouldn't do it.
