Hi folks,My Eico 667 tube tester that I have owned for many years(in fact, the only tester I have ever owned) was stolen recently and smashed to bits,so I am now looking for another tube tester.I have very little money to play with so I have been looking for a cheap replacement.I have been offered a Precision model 640 for a very reasonable price. However I know nothing about Precision tube testers and can find very little about the model 640 to make a comparison to the Eico 667.I was looking for an Eico 666,so that I could test the older 5,6,7 pin tubes, but thought it would be nice to get away from all of Eico's problems with inaccurate set-up charts. Can someone tell me if the Precision 640,which is known as a "cathode conductance" tester is basically the same as the Eico which is a "dynamic conductance" tester.I suspect that they are.I realise an Eico 667 is nothing special, certainly no Hickok, but I would like to get something at least equally as good.In other words,I'm not intersested in taking a step backwards to an even more basic tester, like an Eico 625.Any thoughts, especially from owners, would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Hi Mike
The Precision 640 came out in 1957 and cost $77.91 according to Alan Douglas's book on test equipment.
Why not just look for an Eico 666. Should be able to find one around $50? Since you knew the 667 won't have any problems with a 666. It has sockets for older tubes.

In my opinion the Eico 666 is a step above the 640, look for a 666. I have worked a few of both.
