Old Radios at Christmas
12/19/2007 10:35:33 PMIvan Copas
Last year I gave a friend an old radio that was in my attic a long time as a Cristmas present. He had expressed some interest after seeing my workbench.(Piles of junk) He was retired as I am and this has developed into a hobby with him. He has already borrowed one of my tube testers and a signal generator. Anyway,
This year I have wrapped up a couple more to give to likely people. It spreads the word of our hobby and keeps me out of Wal-Marts, somewhat. It also reduces my clutter.
I want you all to know I read your posts nearly every day and thoroughly enjoy them. The way different people think about circuity fascinstes me.
I have worked in electronics for nearly sixty years and still learning. Keep up the good work and,
Merry Christmas.

:Agree totally!!! I fix em up the best I can, make sure they're safe, and just give em away to friends, family, and others with a little sticker on the back references this site. This a great hobby, but you can end up with a room full in a hurry. I also make sure that the recipients understand how old and unique the radios are and how to use and enjoy them safely! For them it's Christmas no matter what day it is. Their smiles and amazement tnat something this old could look and work so well is well worth my time and expense. I also restore the old 20s-30s wooden spin clocks and usually throw one of them in with the radio just to top things off.

I have a friend that long admired my big Zenith because it reminded her of the radio that her father had when she was a child. One day I found a similar model in an antique shop. Didn't take too much to get it going (tuning belt, some shorted wires with bad rubber insulation). Cleaned it up and surprised her with it. She still cherishes it and her brothers and sisters are all jealous that she has "dad's radio". The best part was that it didn't cost much and I enjoyed doing it for her. Mark from Kalamazoo
