Question re: caps in Philco 37-610
12/16/2007 6:29:26 PMed fauth
I'm in the midst of replacing an 11 lug solder terminal strip in a Philco 37-610 code 121. It would be easier for me to replaced the 110 pF mica caps label #30 and #32 on the schematic than to reuse the existing ones.

My question: Can I replace with 100 pF ceramic caps which I have or should I order new 110 pF caps. If I should order new caps what type composition should I order.

Thanks, ED

Hi Ed

Use 100 pf. They are easier to get and the value isn't critical. These caps remove the IF frequency from audio.

Philco sometimes used high voltage rated caps. You can use 100 volt caps in this location. Only a few volts of audio signal will be across these caps.

Thanks Norm!

Plugged in the new 100 pF caps and the radio "sings". Thanks, Norm, for your advice. ED
