Substitute for 15

Is there anything that will substitute for a #15 tube in a Silvertone model 6074?

There is nothing that directly replaces a #15 tube unless you rewire filaments. You can use a #39 tube if you wire filament to 6 volts. It's easy enough in this radio which operates off 6 volts.

Need to add a resistor in the circuit, replacing the #15 tube, to power your 1J6G. You can just double the value of R15 to drop 4 volts instead of 2.

Do I just replace the #15 tube with a #39 and replace resistor R15 with a 15 ohm resistor?

You need to disconnect the filament wire on your 15 tube going to R15. Then connect the tube pin to ground. This puts 6 volts on the 15 socket. Before you turn the radio on be sure a 39 is in the socket, not 15 tube.

Now you need to increase R15 to 15 ohms. One end of the resistor will not be connected. Connect this end to 6 volts. This will power your 1J6G tube.

You can remove R4, 50 ohm resistor.

The radio will operate if everything else is ok.
