1939 MOTOROLA RADIO

I HAVE A 1939 MOTOROLA RADIO, AND IT PLAYS GREAT. NOTHING HAS BEEN REWIRED. THE RADIO GOES ON ALMOST INSTANTLY, BUT THAN THE VOLUME GOES LOWER AND THEN HIGHER. AFTER IT RUNS FOR AWHILE IT'S OK AND EVENS OUT.WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS.

Capacitors may be leaky. That is the most likely cause. Could also be other things like oddly behaving tubes, or drifted resistors.

Monitor voltages during the performance changes you note. Check to see if B voltages change, or AVC, though properly monitoring AVC requires a very high impedance meter, like a digital meter or a vacuum tube volt meter. Using any other meter on the AVC circuit will cause it to perform improperly, and voltages you see may not tell you much (though a normal 20,000 ohms per volt meter will tell you a bit about the AVC circuit--whether it's performing at all or not....results just won't be accurate, and the RF circuitry might overload with strong signals).

The radio has three seperate sections: the power supply, the RF and the Audio. Measure the B+, the AVC, and the plate Voltage of the output stage, and insead of looking at a whole radio, look for the part of the radio that is causing the trouble. As said above, the AVC will tell you if the RF part is working, the B+ will eliminate the power supply, then you have the RF and IF stages to worry about. After that, you have a very small part of the radio to fix.
It's kinda like "find out what all is working, and then what isn't working is the problem" (Sherlock Holmes, I apoligize)

Attencion...attencion....

And then..........there might also be this possibility........ever typed on a teletype or cipher machine?

There is no transitional upper/to/ lower case shifting, and a person who gets his start on one of those is not encumbered with those additional time consuming considerations. The type is all done in upper case. With time, one can be a real speed demon, with the slowing factor only being the response time of the typebox if using an interconnected hard copy being made out on a teletype printer display...
BUT when using the last device mentioned, as well as by just engaging the tape perforator( or newer units use memory discs )
On those units, it is possible to be ripping off 125+ WPM.

Hey, when you've worked around running jet engines for a while, you need shouting in order to hear. Keep it up.
