I am working on a Ford car radio, and can't find a schmatic for it, the # stamped on the side of the case is, OMF 126833. I assume this is a ford radio, but it has alot of motorola parts in it, I looked it up under both manufactures and no dice.

Ralph, Carl,

Radios for the 1950 Ford passenger car were manufactured by Bendix (0BF), Motorola (0MF), and Zenith (0ZF). 126833 is the serial number of the radio. The 50 Ford truck used the 8- tube 0ZF with an adapter (side brackets for mounting to the dash). The 50 Ford station wagon radio was 8-tube model 0CF751-1 made by Sylvania (Detrola).

As Carl mentions, the service manual for the 50 Ford 0MF radio is in Sams 135-9, and also in Sams AR-2. If no one comes up with an on-line source, I can mail you a copy of the Sams or the Motorola factory manual for this radio.

Ralph,

1MF is for the 51 Ford, similar to the 0MF 50 Ford. Volume controls are different part numbers for the two. 50 Ford control is Motorola # 18B591266. Sams only lists a "make it yourself" replacement, an IRC Concentrikit consisting of the following parts:

B11-137 (tone control; front 1 meg)
B13-130X (volume control; rear 250k tapped at 100k)
E-187 (shaft end)
76-1 (switch)
S-5 (bushing)

The kit is probably harder to find than an original control, and they are scarce. One of the "Beauties" of auto radio repair is the fact that very seldom does a control for one year or model fit the next year or model. Back in the day, several companies made exact replacement auto radio controls for popular models. Controls occasionally show up on eBay, and the bidding is sometimes un-real. I once watched a NOS control for a 50 Chevy bid up to over $300.

You may have to get creative with repairing the control you have. If you can find a control of the same make, you may be able to mix and match parts to make a working control. That is what I do if I can't find an exact replacement.

Ralph,

If the control is defective, perhaps it can be repaired. My may check with Mark at:

Ralph,
I recently repaired a tandem VOL/TONE/SWITCH assembly in a car radio. The unit separated with all bend tabs, and was able to disassemble it. Lubricated the sw, and it came to life. Both the tone and volume were off by 20% (DMM), but performed well in tests. An old analog meter is best for testing for noisy/dirty controls before/after cleaning. The DMM refresh rate may miss some dirty/noisy areas. In cleaning any carbon elements, don't wipe them with solvent, otherwise some of the carbon resist will be removed.

Perhaps I should have said that this control is really toast, in addition to the on/off switch not working, the shaft was pushed back flush with the end of the bushing, it broke the fiber bushing that holds the control to the shaft, I'm just going to have to look harder, Thanks everyone for all of the information.:Ralph,
