Tim,
Anyway you can add a picture or 2 of your chassis here so we can see what you are talking about??
Thanks for your response, not sure how to add pic, will try. The output transformer T2 is the square can, the only info on schematic is "600ohms total"
I should say I am looking for replacment as this one shorted out and is inop. How do I add pic? Thank you.
Tim,
This is a picture of a normal output transformer. I have seen some dressed up but most look very similiar to this. T2 is your output transformer. Does it look like this...square can is unusual shape for late 40's sets. Look for something like picture first and then if it is the square can still, we'll get you word on posting a picture.
Bill
Thanks Bill, my T2 is definitely a square can about 5 in. tall on top of power supply chassis.
Ok. Take a few pictures, go to photobucket, register, upload your pictures. Copy the html IMG code. For first shot don't worry about what you copied, just post here. I'll clean it up unless someone else gets to it before I do. Either way will then tell you specifics on picture posting. We need to see this "can", you might ought to take picture of underside of can too.

Is this what you need ?
Or maybe this? The inside of the can is potted.

Well let's see...if I got it right.
Bill VA,
Another thing he may want to take note of is that the filter cap shown in the topside picture uses an insulator to insulate the can of the cap from chassis. The schematic verifys that fact.

Yes, I noticed that too. In fact the underside of the power supply looks a little rough. I wonder about the tuner part. I'm more of a count-the-cost person than I used to be. Except I did fall into a trap on fixing up an old very bad '41 Philco. Never again.
Bill
That's T2 just as Nostalgia's schematic/parts layout indicates. I don't know if you can get P/N 71661, I looked at playthings...no listing. You may advertise for junker set. These were used in TV's. Stancor catalog shows A-3823 as replacement. Specs indicates it's ok for 6F6's. It won't be encased like your T2. AES has P-T291 @ $17.95 which will work. Depends on how you want things to look. You could get one of the above chassis types, more bucks.
Bill
Bill,
If he is very lucky, a replacement OPT may fit in the original cleaned out can somehow. Perhaps with the mounting ears bent down and soldered to the inside of the can and the can remounted on the chassis. If the holes in the ears of the replacement match the mounting holes in the chassis then he could clean out the old can and mount over the new OPT. This is probably only if he is VERY lucky.

One semi-massive bit of RCA electronics there !..
Referencing..............made utilizing Samuels and :
Parts list gives the AF output transformer as being # 71661
With part # listed on page 18...
Physically located on the power supply / audio amp sub-assembly chassis
# RS 123D
Which is on its on chassis at the off center bottom of the cabinet, with power connections remoted to
the main chassis above....as is shown on page 10.
Finally, look at page 14 where you will see a top chassis view , with the large power transformer being a l l l l
across one end, while at the other end will have an aluminum filter can sticking up at one corner, and a
tall rectangular encased output transformer being mounted across from it at the other corner.
The impedance of that transformer is spec’d as 12K Plate-Plate Pri CT to a 3.2-4 ohm secondary.
RCA also shows the DC resistance reading across all of the primary to be 600 ohms and .3 ohm for the secondary’s
VC winding.
As mentioned, the RCA part number 71661above, as
well as its RCA drawing number of 940394-1.
Subs, if any are to be found, are:
Stancor................................A3856
Chicago Transformer Co......RO-303
Merit...................................A-2936
Or possibly, you just might have to settle for a Hammond universal P-P AF transformer in their 125 series
Here:
http://www.hammondmfg.com/125.htm
In which case, its 1st hook up would be favoring the primary Z and the VC winding the closest.
ADDENDA......EEEEWWeeeee, that OEM AF T-former certainly do look like it has some "rotten cotton"
wires hanging off from it !

::::::::::::How do I go about finding a output transformer in the power supply? It looks like a big electrolict cap on top of chassis! Thanks
