I use a Weller model 8200N (100/140 Watts)for the large items to solder, and then a temperature controlled soldering iron (25 Watt) for smaller items on circuit boards.

Agree with David.. Weller makes a bigger gun - but it's overkill and could damage some components. For 1930's and '40's chassis an 8200 will do nicely. They started making them out of a more drop-resistant material than bakelite - which is nice. A pencil iron (selectable 25 to 40 watts) may help you out in tight areas - and as David notes, 25 watts won't demolish circuit boards. Don't bother with those "cool-touch" irons ... everyone I know who's owned one has been disappointed...
