Need Atwater Kent Mod 55 transformer--early style
9/4/2000 11:04:42 PMBud Geuvens
Hello,
I would like to know if anybody knows where or has a output transformer for my early serial numbered Model 55 Atwater Kent. I have been watching ebay for one and so far haven't had any luck with the earlier style model. I did get a later 55c chassis and found out it had one less wire than mine so I got it going but still need another transformer. If anyone has a earlier model transformer or the whole chassis that they would like to sell, please let me know here or email me.
Thanks
Bud

Hi Bud

What is the difference in output transformers? The later power transformer has an extra wire for shield but even they are interchangeable.

The 55 & 55C use the same circuits. The Model 55 is in a metal cabinet while 55C came without cabinet for mounting into a console.

Check Play Things of Past for parts. They sell transformers taken out of these older radios.

Hello Norm,
In my old transformer I have 11 wires and in the newer one it has only ten. I figured I could use it anyway but wanted an original if I could get one.
Thanks again

Hi Bud

I see what you have. The older power transformer had a separate filament winding for the 45 tubes. The newer one has all tubes off the same winding and a shield has been added. They are interchangeable since all tube filaments run at ground potential.

I'll check around but unless the number of wires are counted most people wouldn't know the difference.

Hey Norm,
I figured that I could use the newer one but after I got the newer chassis, I really couldn't butcher it up just for the transformer. They just don't make,em like these anymore as you well know. If I don't find one here at NA, I'll wait for another one on ebay. One thing that I have learned in the last two years on Ebay, if you miss one this week, it will probably come up again in another week or two.
Thanks again
Bud
