Oh La La! Madames and Messieurs - I picked up a small radio today marked on the back cover with what I suppose is the maker - "Ets Schaerer - Paris" and the model "Benjamin 53 A". Does anyone have any information on / schematic for this récepteur magnifique? It is quite French - a bit garish but kinda cute (like the women) and has 4 bands and a phono setting. The settings are labelled "0C - PO - GO - BE & PU" - What do these abbreviations mean in English? I have determined "OC" & "BE" to be shortwave bands, "PO" is broadcast and "GO" seems to be a useless longwave band. "PU" is the phono pickup. Fortunately, it plays - but I had to promise it some nylons and chocolates before I could turn it on. Any information will be welcomed. Merci beaucoup.....

Ask on a French Forum, they'll tell you everything about the Petite Onde, Bande Étalée, Grande Onde, Pick Up et Ondes Courtes that you want to know...But you will have to do without all those humourless clichés...

Okay - petite onde translates as "Small wave" - I guess equivalent to 'medium wave'. Ondes Courtes is "short wave" and Grande Onde is "long wave" (thanks Babelfish.com). Bande Étalée translates as "spread out band"? If ANYONE ELSE has any info on this radio - I'd appreciate feedback....

The Brits did find a French link on that radio for me and were helpful on a British Marconi set that I've had for a few years but never attempted to operate.....

French is the language of love.... French fries, French toast, French kiss, etc. But German (and Russian) - though not necessarily hateful - sure do sound like it...

Well, not just the French, the Italians and Spanish do a pretty good job of enjoying life. And, yes, my name came from Louis, but when my family came to America, they changed the family name to the English.
