There is no 6SK7 shown on the schematic. The 1st IF is shown as a 6K7, but I'm not sure how an antenna to that tube's grid would be very tunable. But if that is the tube, then there must me something ahead of it that is bad - possibly an open coil winding?
There is no special antenna - just a hank of wire.

:Thanks to everyone here I have my radio working with no distortion. In order to get any reception, I must attach the antenna wire to the grid cap of the 6sk7 tube, not the antenna leads. Is there any special antenna for this style radio, I noticed the small length antenna tht I have does fine for AM reception, but not much for shortwave. Any assistance, as always is greatly appreciated!! Dave F

Pretty easy to build too. I left out the wire that goes to radio ground because I get louder reception without it. Its pretty simple to make. If you are interested in building this and don't have an extra tuning condenser laying around you can pick one up new through a few different vendors. I found the required 365pf tuning condenser new for under $10 through an ebay store.

:Dave,
:That tube should be a 6K7.
:I built this loop antenna for my 38-7 and it works great and looks alot better than a indoor long wire.
