Filament Voltage
10/12/2007 9:06:39 PMTim
I have a zenith 6J2230 that was a mess. I have re-capped and am getting no sound at this point. Checking the voltages most are off but the filament voltage is wrong at the pins. I measure 3.5v ac at pins 2 and 7 each rather than the 6.3v on on and 0 on the other. Similar issue with the 1j5 tube which has .5 and 1.5. I am measuring pin to chassis ground.

If I measure pin to pin, I get 7 volts ac.

Do I have a problem here?

Think you have a Zenith 6J230? The 1J6G should have 2 volts between pins 2 and 7 while other tubes 6.3 between #2 and #7. Seven volts AC would be reasonable for tubes starting with the number 6. You need dial lamps in place for the 1J6G to have proper filament voltage.

The circuit can be found here:

Measure between pins rather than to chassis. Tube plates should have B+ voltage. There is a chart with the Rider data.

Yes, its a 6j230 (duel volage). Should the other pin voltages be measured to the cathode, ground or what? The direction on the schematic say measure to ground.

Measure to ground if the schematic says to.. I noticed center tap of the filament winding was grounded on your power transformer. This would make each filament pin to ground read half voltage.
