This tube has E. R. 507255 on the bulb and only an "S" near the pins. No other markings. What is it?

It might be an electron relay.

I think the E. R. is for Eveready Raytheon.

That appears to be a triode from the 1920's or perhaps earlier. The bayonet base with 4 pins looks like a tube from that era. I don't remember having seen that particular glass envelope though.

It has to be somewhere in between the DeForest Audion and 01a.

Can you see a grid in this tube? If not it might be an early rectifier?

I'll send this to Tube Collectors Association. Jim Cross or Lud Sibley might know?

Norm, It's a Moorhead Electron Relay tube. I was reading about reactivating old tubes in "Everyman's Guide to Radio" 1927, and stumbled upon a picture. Guess that's what Johnnysan was indicating. The web has sites with pictures and data about Moorhead I need to read yet. But a detector? Thanks to all for the help. Any other specifics appreciated.

I got it now. It's a gas detector. Moorhead ER tall plate with mica spacer, 7,000 made. Filament volts 4, current .70, and plate 20-40 volts.Information from this site:

Heard back from Lud. Tube was made around 1920 in San Francisco. The 6 digit number is the serial. The S probably indicates Shaw base. Lud called it an "electron relay".

I would have forwarded the email but your address isn't shown.
